The Division of Visual and Instructional Design is a self-supporting, cost-recovery entity within Georgia Health Sciences University Office of Academic Affairs. Art and design produced by the unit is billed to the project director/department requesting the service. Charges are based on actual amounts of time required to complete the project. The division posts per-hour charges and will provide customers with cost estimates upon customer request, based on the artist’s understanding of the scope of the work requested.
Reason for Policy
The Division of Visual and Instructional Design is a cost-recovery unit and must generate revenue to cover the artists’ salaries, benefits, supplies, training and travel.
Entities Affected By This Policy
All Visual and Instructional Design customers, including university administrators, Georgia Health Sciences University faculty and staff, and outside entities seeking visual arts services that work in conjunction or cooperation with Georgia Health Sciences University, are covered by this policy.
Who Should Read This Policy
This policy should be known and understood by all customers of Georgia Health Sciences University Visual and Instructional Design Division, whether they be internal or external entities

The Division of Visual and Instructional Design is a self-supporting cost-recovery unity within Georgia Health Sciences University. Art and design produced by the unit is billed to the project director/department requesting the service. Charges are based on actual amounts of time required to complete the project. The division provides per-hour charges and cost estimates upon request.
The Division of Visual and Instructional Design generates revenue by submitting billing based on an appropriate hourly charge to the customer or department contracting the service. Bills to internal customers are typically paid by an interdepartmental request (IDR) form. External customers pay by check or credit card. The Division does not accept cash payments. Customers are expected to provide billing information to the VID artists at the commencement of the project. Charges are subject to change without notice.

|Director of Visual and Instructional Design||Provides oversight and ensures compliance with Georgia Health Sciences University’s graphic standards policies.|
|Graphic Artist||Provides professional graphic design for faculty, staff, and external customers compliant with the institution’s graphic standards policy.|
|Medical Illustrator||Creates professional medical illustration for visual arts projects that comply with the university’s graphic design standards.|
|Photographer||Provides professional photography for use by Georgia Health Sciences University faculty and staff. Maintains a library of stock photographs for use in Georgia Health Sciences University publications. Provides professional photographic coverage of Georgia Health Sciences University events as requested by administration, students, staff, and external customers.|
|Technical Illustrator||Creates professional scientific posters, charts, graphs and illustrations used in journal articles, presentations, grant applications, and marketing events to internal and external customers|
|Video Production Specialist||Provides videographic coverage of institutional events including lectures, ceremonies, presentations, continuing education programs, and student events.|
|Senior Video Production Specialist||Provides oversight, supervision, and editing expertise for all video projects completed by Georgia Health Sciences University Division of Visual and Instructional Design.|
