To assure that standardized placards are posted at the entrances to all rooms and areas where hazardous chemicals are located. In the event of a fire or other emergency, they are posted to inform emergency response personnel about potential hazards so they can protect themselves from injury.
Caution placards that comply with Section 704 of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code must be posted at the entrance to any room or area where hazardous chemicals are stored or used.
Principal Investigators are required by the institution Chemical Safety Committee to provide the Chemical Safety Office with an annually updated inventory of all chemicals in all rooms in which they are used or stored.

The Chemical Safety Office will update hazardous chemical placards as needed based on information provided by Principal Investigators in their annual chemical inventories.
