To define who is authorized to accept and acknowledge lawsuits and other legal claims against Georgia Health Sciences University and its employees.
It is the policy of Georgia Health Sciences University that all lawsuits, ante litem notices or other legal claims against Georgia Health Sciences University or any GHSU employee for an act or omission arising out of their employment at GHSU shall only be acknowledged and accepted by the GHSU Legal Office. All GHSU employees shall be deemed to have authorized the Legal Office to accept service of process on their behalf for claims related to their GHSU employment.
In the event that any lawsuit, ante litem notice or other legal claim is mailed, delivered or forwarded to any employee, such employee shall immediately forward such claim to the GHSU Legal Office for review and response. The Legal Office will advise all affected employees of their rights and obligations related to such legal claim.
This policy will not apply to lawsuits or other legal claims which are (a) brought against individuals who are no longer employed at GHSU at the time such claim is received or (b) related to acts or omissions not related to an individual=s employment at GHSU (e.g., a divorce complaint).
